I look out as the story unfolds

How she hasn’t reached for her phone

Because he told he’ll be right back

As he paces back to his car

to get the flowers he left in the back 

so she wouldn’t see them as they drove down the track

and watch her heart beat out of her chest

as they would forget about the rest of the world 

Until her dog jumps up to see what she was holding

And now there’s water all through the car

Spilling out from the mason jar he used as a vase

So he just reached out for her hand

until the road becomes unfamiliar
